General Notes

Getting Started

You do not need the CD-ROM to play Star Trek ConQuest Online. After installing the game, you may start playing the game by pressing the Windows Start button and clicking on Programs: Genetic Anomalies: Star Trek ConQuest Online.

Registration

If you purchased Star Trek ConQuest Online at a store, there should be a 16-digit CD Key code on the CD case. You need that code to register the software and receive your bonus game pieces. Click Here to find out how to use the code.

Online Purchasing

When entering a credit card expiration date in the Get Pieces screen, make sure to use the MM/YY format. Example: Enter 11/02 for November 2002.

Game Notes

Planetary Effects Occur at the Start of the Turn

Unless otherwise noted in the rules for an effect, Planetary Effects occur at the start of each turn. This is especially important for the Victory Planet effect (which gives a player a Q Point if the player’s Q is on a victory planet).

Example: At the end of a turn you have 9 Q Points and your Q is on a Victory Planet. You do not get a Q Point at this time. At the start of the Deploy phase of the next turn, you receive a Q Point (bringing your total to 10). The game does not check for victory until the end of the turn in which you gained the 10th Q Point , so you need to play out the turn even though you have 10 Q Points.

A Damaged Piece may be Removed when its Shield or Hit Point Bonus Item is Removed

Some items give Shield or Hit Point bonuses to other pieces. This allows the piece to withstand extra damage. However, if the item is removed, the piece itself is removed if its Shields or Hit Points are now zero or less.

Example: A Bird of Prey (Shields 9) has a High Capacity Shield Grid placed on it, raising its Shields to 19. The Bird of Prey takes 11 points of damage in combat, bringing its Shields down to 8. If the High Capacity Shield Grid is then removed (say by a Ferengi Commerce Vessel), the 10-point Shields bonus from the High Capacity Shield is also removed, dropping the Bird of Prey’s Shields below zero. The Bird of Prey is removed from the game.

If the Bird of Prey had taken only 9 points of damage, it would have 1 point of Shields remaining after the High Capacity Shield Grid was removed and thus would remain in play.

Some Pieces are Less Effective in the Basic Game than They are in the Advanced Game

Some pieces have abilities that can only be activated during the Specials phase. The Basic Game, however, does not have a Specials phase and thus the abilities of these pieces cannot be used. These pieces can be used in the Basic Game, but they will be less effective than in the Advanced Game.

When playing the Basic Game, read the text of your pieces carefully to make sure that you know which pieces will be able to use their abilities. (Unless a piece’s ability happens automatically, odds are that the ability is activated only in the Advanced Game’s Special phase.)

A Player Cannot Target the Same Piece with More than One Special Ability per Phase

During any phase, a player can target a piece with no more than one special ability. This includes friendly as well as enemy pieces. (It is possible for one player to target a piece with a special ability and the opposing player also to target that piece with a special ability during the same phase.)

Example: You cannot use Tractor Beam on an enemy ship and also target that ship with Ferengi Liquidator’s special ability in the same phase. You could use one or the other but not both. (However, you could target an enemy ship with Tractor Beam and your opponent could also target it with Ferengi Liquidator’s special ability in the same phase.)
